You can publish your web site by using the publishing tool in the software package you used to create your web pages, or by transferring the files with an FTP program.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the most basic and best-supported method of transferring files to and from your web hosting account. Almost every operating system includes a basic FTP program, but most of our clients prefer to download enhanced FTP clients from the Internet. Many third-party FTP clients are available for use in publishing information to your web site. Additionally, many HTML editors support FTP, allowing users to publish directly to their web page without using an external FTP application.
Most FTP clients work like Windows Explorer (the tool used to manage files and folders on your personal computer). Some present a split view, with your computer on the left and your web hosting account on the right, allowing you to browse and transfer files between the two. Others work in conjunction with Windows Explorer to allow you to drag and drop directly from Windows onto your FTP site. The implementation varies with the client that you use, but the basic concept is the same.
We provide support documentation for five of the most popular third-party FTP clients, which include WS_FTP LE, SmartFTP, CuteFTP, FlashFXP, and LeechFTP. SmartFTP and LeechFTP are freeware, and WS_FTP LE may be used by non-commercial entities for free. CuteFTP and FlashFXP are commercial programs. For more information about obtaining copies of this software, please see the download links next to each package on the main support page.
